The Federal Bedroom
Circa 1810, the Hotel
consisted only of the center section of today's
building. At that time it had two stories with
side hallway and a gambrel roof, in classic
Eastern shore design. The Whitehaven Ferry,
operating since 1685, brought horse and buggy
passengers right to its front door step and
the Hotel functioned as a tavern with rooms
for overnight guests. The Federal Bedroom dates
to 1810 and features false grained woodwork,
working fireplace, wide planked loblolly pine
floors and private bath (clawfoot tub with overhead
shower). The room looks directly over the Wicomico
River.
